  • The Heber Springs Panthers evened their  record at 4-4 with an 11-1, six-inning run-rule victory over the West Side Eagles on Tuesday at the Heber Springs Sports Complex.
Heber used a different pitcher in each inning.  “Our plan was to throw one person per inning because we have to save a lot of pitching for Friday [doubleheader with Newport],” said Panthers Coach Darren Gowen. “We wanted to get them some work and they did a good job throwing strikes for the most part. I’ve got to work on our mound a little bit because we had three walks and I think most of them were because of that...It’s great to get out. We haven’t played in 12 days, it seems like forever.”
Gowen said his young team needs more repetitions at the plate. “With as many young guys and new guys as we’ve got we need play as much as we can. We’ve already had five or six rained out. When you miss that many it’s just tough to get your timing down and they did like us and pitched a different pitcher every other inning. Brooks Morgan had a good day with three hits, Paden [Flippin] and Geoffrey [Anderson] hit the ball hard and we had a lot of people get out there and play and swing the bat because they may need to help us down the road.”
Morgan finished 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs while Michael Ludwig was 2-for-2, Paden Flippin was 2-for-3, Jackson Thomas 2-for-4 and Colby Allen 1-for-1 with a pair of RBIs.
After traveling to Bald Knob Thursday, Heber puts its 2-4A conference record of 2-2 on the line in a key 2-4A conference doubleheader against Newport. Opening pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Heber Sports Complex.
