  • The Heber Springs Lady Panthers beat Mountain Home (9-2), Cabot (3-1) and Harding Academy (14-0) to claim the Ozark Classic championship held over the weekend in Harrison.
    In Friday’s win over Class 6A Mountain Home, pitcher McKenzie Cresswell held the Lady Bombers to three hits while striking out eight in five innings. Second base player Courtney Verser led the Lady Panthers’ offensive attack with two hits, one run and three RBI, while Cresswell and centerfielder Alexis Ingram each contributed a pair of hits, a run and one RBI. Left fielder Skye Miller drove home two runs and scored two more.
    In Saturday’s semifinal win over Class 7A Cabot, Bridget Muse tossed three innings while only allowing two hits and striking out five for the win on the mound. Courtney Rackley picked up the save, pitching three innings without giving up a hit and striking out three.
    Offensively, shortstop Peyton Vineyard led the way with two hits, one run and one RBI. Miller, Ingram, Muse and Cresswell, who played third base, also had base knocks. Miller and Cresswell each scored a run and Cresswell also had an RBI. Pinch-hitter Skylar Johnson drove home a run for Heber, which led 2-1 after three innings before adding an insurance run in the sixth.
    Heber slammed Class 3A Harding Academy in Saturday’s championship game. Vineyard paced the Lady Panthers, going 3-for-4 with two runs and five RBI. Miller also finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored, while Ingram and Cresswell each scored two runs and drove home two more. Sam Temple added three RBIs and Hannah Mangum drove home two runs.
    Rackley, who improved to 4-2 for the season, picked up the victory on the mound, only giving up two hits while striking out three in five innings of work.
    The Lady Panthers hosted Izard County Consolidated on Monday and resumed 2-4A conference action at Lonoke on Tuesday. Heber returns home on Thursday for a league game against Newport. Opening pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
