  • West Side claimed a spot in this week’s state tournament in Bradley with an 11-0 win over Ridgefield Christian on Friday in the first round of the Class 1A, Region 3 tournament at South Side Bee Branch.
    The Lady Eagles defeated Weiner 6-2 in Saturday’s semifinal round before falling to host South Side 9-1 in Monday’s championship game, leaving West Side with a No. 2 seed going into Thursday night’s state tournament game against Izard County Consolidated (3rd Region 2).
    A win Thursday would place West Side in the state quarterfinals  today at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of Nemo Vista (1st Region 1) and Ouachita (4th Region 4)  at Bradley High School. The winner advances to the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
    In Friday’s 11-0 victory over Ridgefield Christian, Haley Delk led the Lady Eagles offensively with three hits and two runs scored. Teraka Cowley was 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored, while Keeligh Davis went 2-for-2 with a single, double and two runs scored.
    Amber England chipped in a hit and run scored, while Eden Bailey and Karissa Passmore both collected a hit and scored a run. Cowley picked up the win, holding Ridgefield to one hit while striking out nine and not giving up a walk.
    In Saturday’s 6-2 win over Weiner, Amber England finished 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Cowley and Davis each added a single and scored a run. Also, Passmore contributed a triple. Cowley picked up the win in the circle, scattering six hits and striking out seven without allowing a walk.
    In Monday’s 9-1 loss to South Side in the regional finals, Cowley led West Side with two hits, a single and double, while Davis and Alexis Barnes also had base hits.
