  • Rose Bud is gunning for its first softball title in school history today in Fayetteville, where they are scheduled to square off with the Mansfield Lady Tigers at 2 p.m. at the University of Arkansas’ Bogle Park.
After rallying to beat Prescott 8-7 with three runs in the final inning of last Saturday’s Class 3A state semifinal game, Rose Bud Coach Matt Porter said his team is very similar to Mansfield, which defeated Harding Academy 3-0 in the other semifinal game.
“We saw Mansfield. They remind me a lot of us. They bunt the ball when they have to, they play great defense behind their pitcher. They are a mirror image of us almost so we are definitely going to have to be prepared. But, like I told them just now, you can’t measure their heart,” added Porter.
Mansfield’s path to the title game began with a 15-0 victory over Corning. The Lady Tigers then defeated Arkansas Baptist 8-1 before downing Harding Saturday’s semifinal round.
Rose Bud (34-3) began its quest for a state title with a 3-1 triumph over Genoa Central. The Lady Ramblers then beat Perryville 11-1 before Saturday’s thrilling win over Prescott.
