  • The Heber Springs Post 64 Dodgers American Legion baseball team split their first two games of the season, topping Morrilton 4-1 on Friday in Center Ridge and falling to Stuttgart 11-2 on Sunday in Stuttgart.
The Dodgers’ first home game, originally scheduled for Monday against Rose Bud, was postponed by rain.
In Friday’s win over Morrilton, Shane Miller racked up nine strikeouts in five innings while only allowing an unearned run.
Tied at 1-all entering the seventh inning, Michael Ludwig delivered a bases-clearing triple to the alley in right center.
Ludwig then pitched a scoreless bottom half for the save.
Dodgers Manager Bobby Brock said Morrilton played outstanding defense. “They flashed some leather. They had two or three plays that could have been on ESPN’s top plays.”
Brock said the team barely had enoguh players to fill the lineup at Stuttgart. “We had a few starters we were counting on not show up and had to play a bunch of young guys. You can’t have that against a team like Stuttgart and expect to come out on top.”
The Dodgers (1-1) are scheduled to visit Harrison today and travel to Rose Bud on Monday, June 11.
