Today marks the anniversary of the Allied invasion of France in 1944

Today marks the 71st anniversary of the Allied invasion of German occupied France in 1944.  It was this day that the marked the decline and eventual defeat of Nazi Germany during WWII.  Thousands of U.S. and other Allied soldiers lost their lives on the rocky beaches of this heavily defended front. Their victory directly led to the liberation of France from Nazi forces.

The attached photo is of a framed medal awarded to Richard B. Combs (1921-2008) on June 6, 1999 by Benton County, Ar for his service during WWII.  Combs served in the military from 1941 to 1955.
