Bill Van Wyk died June 9, 2012

William “Bill” Edgar Van Wyk, 79 of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 after a battle with cancer.  Bill was born Friday, July 22, 1932 in Eaton, New York to the late John C. and Marion Purcell Van Wyk. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, John Van Wyk and Richard Van Wyk. 


Bill served his country as a meteorologist in the United States Air Force retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1972. After retiring from the Air Force, Bill continued as a weather forecaster with Federal Express in Memphis, Tennessee until 1996 when he retired.  Bill continued enjoying life in Heber Springs spending many happy hours volunteering at Cleburne County Cares.  Bill was of the Lutheran faith.


Bill is survived by his wife, Sandy Van Wyk of the home, three daughters, Vicki Kalcic of Lewisburg, Kansas, Shirley Van Wyk of Belton, Missouri, Jodie Litton of Brighton, Tennessee; one son, Chris Gerlach and his wife Becky of Miamisburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.


The family has suggested in lieu of flowers that memorials may be made to Cleburne County Cares in Bill’s memory.  Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in the chapel of the Heber Springs Funeral Home.  Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Al Henager officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow the services at the Cleburne County Memorial Gardens in Heber Springs.  Please visit Bill’s online obituary at or call 501.887.9152.
