  • The Post 64 Dodgers of Heber Springs outlasted Morrilton 8-7 on Saturday at the Heber Springs Sports Complex.
Ross Harrison of Harding Academy picked up the victory on the mound, giving up five earned runs while striking out five and not allowing a walk through six. With Heber clinging to a one-run lead entering the seventh, Michael Ludwig picked up the save, striking out the first two and working around a two-out error by inducing a pop-out handled by Shane Miller at shortstop.
Morrilton jumped in front with four runs in the top of the first but the Dodgers scratched across a run in the bottom half when Ludwig singled and scored. Trailing 4-1, Doc Weaver doubled and scored in the second.
Morrilton tacked on an insurance run for a 5-2 lead entering the bottom of the third but the Dodgers responded with two runs, sparked by a Harrison triple. Down 5-4 entering the bottom of the fourth, Heber took its first lead.
Post 64 evened the scoreboard when Cody Masterson of Mount Vernon-Enola, who finished 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, singled and scored. Miller, who finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and 2 RBIs, laced a two-run triple as the Dodgers took their first lead at 7-5 before Morrilton escaped further damage.
Harrison, who finished 1-for-1 at the plate with two runs scored and three walks, pitched a scoreless fifth and Post 64 added an important insurance run in the bottom half. Jimmy Thomas ignited the Dodgers with a single and he scored on an RBI double off the bat of Caleb Spears, who played high school baseball with Harrison at Harding Academy.
With Heber leading 8-5, Morrilton scored two runs in the sixth to pull within one before Ludwig slammed the door in the top of the seventh.
Post 64 (2-1) travels to the Harrison Tournament this weekend. The Dodgers return home next week for games against Pine Bluff (Tuesday at 6 p.m.) and Lonoke (Thursday at 5:30 p.m.)
