  • Pirates stay on course for state title

  • The Concord Pirates continue to sail towards a Class 1A state championship. After finishing runner-up last season, the Pirates appear poised to capture the crown as they have won all of their matches and tournaments this season, including Tuesday's victory over Class 5A Vilonia and Class 3A Mountain View at Tannenbaum Golf Club in Drasco.

  • The Concord Pirates continue to sail towards a Class 1A state championship. After finishing runner-up last season, the Pirates appear poised to capture the crown as they have won all of their matches and tournaments this season, including Tuesday's victory over Class 5A Vilonia and Class 3A Mountain View at Tannenbaum Golf Club in Drasco.
    The Pirates fired a three-player nine-hole total of 119 as Cameron Reesor led the way with a score of 38. Luke Cornett followed with a 39 and Ryan Cornelison shot a 42. AJ Cannon (47) also competed for Concord. Vilonia placed second with a total of 137, while Mountain View finished with a 143.
    Concord Coach Keith Cornett said his team posted quality scores despite difficult conditions. "We are playing real consistent. I was real pleased yesterday (Tuesday) because the wind picked up and it was tough."
    Last week at Cadron Valley Country Club in Conway, the Pirates defeated Class 2A power Conway St. Joseph by six strokes. Cornelison sparked Concord, which finished with a three-player nine-hole total of 112, leading the team with an even-par 35. Cornett finished one over par (36), while Reesor tallied a 41. Cannon (54) also competed for Concord.
    The Pirates were scheduled to visit Red Apple for a match against Heber Springs and Clinton on Thursday. The Pirates return home next Thursday when they will host a match at Tannenbaum.
