  • Quitman student makes the grade in Vegas

  • Pat Richardson proved himself at the Microsoft World Competition in Las Vegas.

  • Pat Richardson of Quitman recently competed in the Microsoft World Competition in Las Vegas, sponsored by certification and exam service Certiport. Students qualified for the competition by achieving their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Word, Excel, & PowerPoint 2010 or 2007. According to information provided by Certiport, the student's scores and times were used to determine advancement in “state, national, and the international championships.”
    Pat is a sophomore at Quitman High School and competed at the state and district competitions, coming in 1st place. As a result of his wins, he and his family received an all-expense-paid trip to the world competition in Las Vegas on August 1. According to Certiport, the competition “attracted more than 285,000 unique candidates from 53 countries.” Pat was one of the 113 students that made it to the final round of competition. He described the other contestants as “very competitive” and ultimately finished with an impressive 4th place win. Beating out other candidates from countries such as Thailand, China, and Singapore. This was Pat's first time visiting Vegas and when asked about his first impression of the popular tourist destination he stated it was “crazy', especially the always active Vegas strip.
    Pat has an avid interest in business and technology, especially in the design field. According to Pat, he would like to turn this interest into a field of study as he begins contemplating his college options. He is an active member of FBLA, having attended the National FBLA Conference in San Antonio. His achievement in Vegas is just the beginning for Mr. Richardson. Now he has his sights set on the next competition that will be held in Washington, D.C. His confidence and talent will undoubtedly make him a force to be reckoned with in the nation's capital.
