  • In a clash of district champions, Concord's Pirates warmed up for the Class 1A State Tournament with a victory over Class 5A Greene County Tech on Thursday at Tannenbaum Golf Club in Drasco.
    Playing by 5A rules, which calls for taking the top four scores, Concord won the 18-hole match by 19 strokes (335-354) as Ryan Cornelison led the way with a round of 76. Cameron Reesor followed with a score of 82, Luke Cornett finished with an 85 and AJ Cannon tallied a score of 92.
    GCT won the 5A-East District Tournament, while Concord won last week's Class 1A, District 2 Tournament. The Pirates improved to 9-0 in matches and 3-0 in tournament play heading into state.
    The Pirates, who finished state runner-up last season with the same four players, shoot for the state title on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Magnolia Country Club.
