On October 22 at 5 p.m. Superintendent Russell Hester will talk with the public about Title 1 and other Annual reports affecting the school. The meeting will take place in the District Administration Building with the regular school board meeting to follow.
Outgoing School Board President Ronnie Fair received a plaque presented by New School Board President Gary Redd during the last school board meeting. Fair was given a plaque to honor his 10 years of service.
In other business the high school graduation date has been changed. The new graduation date for the 2012-2013 school year will be Friday, May 24. A calendar approved by the board earlier in the year set the date for Friday, May 17. The new date of May 24 will allow one more week of class time for students to improve their grades.
Board members narrowed the field of 19 architects to five and will continue to narrow their choices and select one to build a new fine arts building or auditorium. Board members asked Hester in June to find an architect or urban planner to get ideas on where to place a new building. The district’s desire to build a fine arts building or auditorium came from a special meeting held to discuss the districts long range plans.
The Heber Springs Walmart is planning an Appreciation Day for Elementary school teachers and other faculty members. Tina Lester Operations Manager for Walmart will give away 20-$50 Gift Cards to faculty members chosen in a random drawing. No date has been set.
