On fourth and goal with Thursday's 2-3A conference game at Perryville hanging in the balance, Rose Bud quarterback Jake Cantey powered across the goal-line for a 1-yard touchdown to tie the game. The Junior Ramblers (5-0, 3-0) added two more points when Cantey executed an option pitch to running back Payton Jones for a 30-28 lead, which held up once Rose Bud's defense came away with a last second stand. Alex Jenkins, Louis Nelson and Sam Strain tackled Perryville running back Kendarious Smith short of the goal-line as time expired, preserving the Junior Ramblers' 30-28 victory. The home-standing Junior Mustangs took an early 6-0 lead before Rose Bud responded with a touchdown run from Jones and two-point conversion pass from Cantey to receiver Palmer Spurlock, giving the Junior Ramblers a two-point lead with 3:07 left in the first quarter. Another Jones touchdown run and two-point conversion pass from Cantey to Spurlock pushed Rose Bud's lead to 16-6 but Perryville would answer quickly, then strike again late in the second quarter for a 20-16 lead at halftime. The Jr. Mustangs opened the third quarter with a touchdown run from Smith, plus a two-point conversion for a 28-16 lead before Rose Bud utility back Devin Reed broke loose for a touchdown run. Cantey's two-point conversion pass fell incomplete, leaving the Jr. Ramblers with a six-point deficit entering the final eight minutes of play. In the fourth quarter, Jenkins came away with an interception, which he returned for a touchdown but a penalty negated the score, moving the ball back to the Perryville 35. However, despite a holding penalty that nullified another score, the Jr. Ramblers eventually capitalized on Jenkins' interception when Cantey scored on fourth down and Jones added two more on the conversion as Rose Bud pulled out an exhilarating 30-28 victory. Rose Bud hosts Bald Knob for its final home game on Thursday at 7 p.m.
