The definition of Fatatude is staying in a fat attitude. My definition for Fantastitude is a Super Great attitude for success & Weight Loss. We need this type attitude to reach our goals.

From Liberty Mutual I read information that totaled up the overweight and obese, as nearing 67% of our entire population. That is getting way too close to 70 %-as far as I am concerned.

And you thought that Halloween was scary!

The Statistics are:

The Centers for Disease Control recently released its Vital Signs report onadult obesity, based on a telephone survey of 400,000 people, and the numbers were undeniably alarming. According to the report, about 2.4 million more adults were obese in 2009 than in 2007. In fact, more than 72 million U.S. adults—or 26.7 percent—are now obese. In nine states (a cluster of states in the South and Midwest that roughly overlap what has been called the "Stroke Belt") more than 30 percent of adults are obese. And the medical care costs associated with the problem total about $147 billion. (Guess where we live?)

Some people tell us that:

Permanent weight loss is as simple as eating less and moving more.

Now do you really believe that is true?

Just think, if that were true you wouldn't be reading this column, you'd be off somewhere enjoying your fit, trim self without a thought in your head about the difficulties of weight loss.

After finding the perfect weight loss program for you –Fantastitude (not Fatatude) is everything.
So what is something that can help with this problem?

First you need the correct program, and I feel that it must begin by utilizing your genetics to design the exact program for your body type.

Next I feel that you need to use the glycemic index, so you do not spike your blood sugar. Spiking our blood sugar has lead to not only overweight and obesity, but to diabetes and a host of other health issues-too numerous to mention.

After that I think a fantastic determined attitude, Fantastitude is extremely helpful.

Dr. Donald Hensrud, stated that a positive attitude is key in a weight loss Mayo Clinic blog.

As a person who has taught a certified diet wellness & weight loss program for several years-I certainly do agree.

Of course, not everyone comes with a fantastic determined attitude built in—so how do we create one?
We need to learn how to talk to ourselves is a very positive helpful way.

You need to know what you are doing, and what works each and every day. So, I have my classes keep a detailed journal. Later they can refer back and see what was working, or what wasn't.

3. You must be capable of stepping back and viewing the big picture, Do not think that if you fail for one meal-that all is lost or that the jig is up. Realize that as humans we all eat over a hundred times each and every month, and one meal or one time to eat is just a drop in the bucket.

It is what we make a practice of— that will either make or break us.

4. Most of us need to learn the art of mastering our own attitude. There are steps we can use to implement this wonderful tool.

To have a Winning Attitude, you must realize that you always have a choice, and choosing is empowering!!
You have a choice of what you will eat, and if and when and how you will exercise. No one else has your choice but you.

Sure, the situation may be difficult; sometimes you may have to choose between less than ideal steps. But remember, the choice is always yours, and the only way to fail in the long run is to fail to choose.

Next in our series this 2012 holiday season, I will be sharing something that generally helps me. I just love success stories. This is an actual success of someone that has gone through my fast start program, and I will share her results.

I have made the Black Bean Brownies a couple of times, and they are helpful for me and my students, although I don't think a regular eater of junk food and lots of sweets would find them tempting. But I like them; they are fudgy and yet cake like, with some sweetness. No, you don't taste the beans.
