October 25, 2012 Concord hosted many special guest speakers during their Red Ribbon Week celebration. This week is designated each year to celebrate a life that is drug free. Ms. Kimberley Sartain, the drug free coordinator, asked several law enforcement officers to share information on the different types of drugs, their side effects and how they destroy the lives of not only the users, but family and friends as well. Special guests included Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss, Cleburne County Investigator of Narcotics Richard Swain, and Cleburne County Investigator Willie Baker. Other guests included Kathy Schaufler, officer with the juvenile court system and James Humphrey, special agent with the drug task force. Approximately 200 students grades 7-12 heard about hazards and stories of actual drug busts officers had been involved in. After the presentation, students had the opportunity to ask questions. Concord school district strives to bring informative presentations to their students to help promote positive life choices.
