I love the inspiration I receive when I read about others' success. That is especially true when I am working on a specific goal; then I enjoy reading about those that succeed. They inspire me.
Maybe you feel the same.
In the last few weeks I have been sharing material in this column on ways to help with 'size control.' This is another in that series.
A friend of mine needed help with her excess weight, so I offered to help her. She has always been there to help with any of my projects, so since this is my field of expertise I wanted to help her.
In the last few years she has gained excess weight, (fat really) and then she gained even more. She became very discouraged.
I wonder if you know how that feels. I sure do.
She hated how she felt, and wanted to turn things around. I understood, because I have been there myself.
I asked if she would like to do my program, and she, because of her desperation, —yes.
I spoke to her about the part I call my Fast Start that I use with some people. It is more restrictive, but gets fabulous results-in the short term. Since it is restrictive I don't allow anyone to stay on it for long.
This program is very helpful, as it encourages a person when they are very discouraged with their excess fat.
It is designed to lose about a pound of fat a day, for a short while. So, she decided to do the Fast Start program.
I say she, because my friend is a very private person and only agreed to my using her results if I didn't print her name. I said fine.
The following records the results from her first two weeks. One week on Fast Start, then one week on my regular program.
I will not go into the specifics of the program itself, but just her personal results.
After being on the Fast Start program for just one day she called to tell me she had already lost one pound. After 3 days she had lost 4 pounds, and after 5 days she had lost 7 pounds.
At the end of the week her totals were: 8 1/2 lbs, 12 ½ inches and 13 points of fat. (Her high tech scales separated regular weight and fat weight, and I know nothing about those types of scales.)
At that point she changed over to the regular program.
At the end of her second week her clothing began to be too large, and in some cases she began wearing smaller clothes. This is because she lost a total of 19 ½ inches, a little more in pounds, and a little more fat was subtracted from her body.

That is pretty exciting results for someone who has done nothing except gain weight and inches of fat year after year.
This losing will slow, but it does continue. The fast start gives a person hope and allows them to see that it is possible to reach their health and weight loss goals.
My friend now knows that this program works, and it works great for her. What a relief.
Because of this she has decided to stay on it.
Although she cannot stay on Fast Start continually, she can use it around once a month, or anytime she hits a plateau. Plateaus are another fact of life.
I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression. We need to redesign our lifestyle. Going on a diet, then off one, just does not work.
Your diet is whatever you eat, and you need to make a practice of eating healthy, and what works best for you.
To reach your health and size goals, it is necessary to design your program with your own genetics in mind, and utilize the glycemic index so you do not spike your blood sugar.
Spiking blood sugar leads to more than 22 different health issues above and beyond becoming overweight.
I hope this encourages you. It encouraged me, even though I have already gone through this program myself.
