  • William Gene Warren of The Woodlands, Texas passed away October 31, 2012. A former resident of Heber Springs, Gene served as manager of the local Ben Franklin Store on Main Street.

  • William Gene Warren of The Woodlands, Texas passed away October 31, 2012. A former resident of Heber Springs, Gene served as manager of the local Ben Franklin Store on Main Street. He later worked in real estate and in 1973, he became a service representative for Southwestern Bell, which later merged with AT&T. After transfers to Corpus Christi, Texas, and New Jersey, he retired from that company.
    In 1957, Gene was deployed with the 875th Engineer Construction Company with the Arkansas National Guard to the Central High School Crisis in Little Rock. In August of 1961, he served in North Carolina with the National Guard Unit of Heber Springs, the 172nd Engineer Maintenance Company.
    Gene was born December 15,1938 in Newport Arkansas to William and Dorothy Warren. William is preceded in death by his parents; and his former wife, Ann Lou Warren. William is survived by his wife: Donna Warren; sons: William Hank Warren and wife Jacqui; Byron Warren and wife Tracy; Brent Warren and wife Nichelle; step children: Christy George and husband Roger; Cory Fothergill and wife Kelly; grandchildren: Henry Lee Warren "Lil Hank", Carolyn Warren, Kennedy D. Warren, Skyler Warren,Tiner Ray George, Kaylee George, Abbie Fothergill, Ethan Fothergill, Emma Fothergill, Aidan Fothergill; sister: Carrie Jane Hailes of Augusta, Arkansas; mother-in-law: Mrs. Eloise Davis; and beloved Dog Heidi. He is also survived by the mother of his sons, Brent and Byron Warren, Diane Williams of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
    A Visitation was held 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday November 3, 2012, at Metcalf Funeral Directors. A memorial service will be Thursday, November 8, 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, Gravette, Arkansas.
