The last several weeks of columns have all been related. We have looked at weight loss from many different angles. We even followed one person's beginning weight loss success, entitled "Inspiration".
Today's column is related too, even if you feel it is a stretch to say so. Read on and see if any of this material is a fit for you.
As we eat improperly, eating more sugar and processed foods than we should, we gain weight. This causes in us- an imbalance, also creating a hormonal imbalance.
Thus overeating this way causes weight gain, obesity, and a hormonal imbalance and then it leads us to the road or journey of diabetes, called diabesity.
Yes it is all related. It doesn't stop there, because if we do not correct our lifestyle, it will create more than 22 different health issues in us. And each and everyone of them can be corrected by our lifestyle.
Because of this fact, and the fact that each diabetic that has been in any of my classes-that have also applied the good nutrition I teach- improved their blood sugar readings and thus their diabetes.
This reminds me of a book that I read maybe a couple of years ago. The name of the book? It is called the "Schwarzbein Principle."
Why am I telling you about this book? Because it seems that so many diabetics have improved their disease, using her dietary formula.
Dr. Schwarzbein tells us, "I was taught that a low-fat diet high in complex carbohydrates prevented weight gain and disease. I believed what my professors said. Early on, I advocated low-fat diets. But this soon changed."
Let me share her trials, experience and her conclusions-from her book. Later you check it out for yourselves-and see what you think.
After her training, she accepted a position, but was not thrilled when her patients were type 2 diabetics. Her feelings were such, because of the fact that with the accepted treatment these patients just did not get better. It was the accepted norm.
Dr. Schwarzbein sincerely wanted to do well which meant helping them. She began by spending an entire hour talking with each patient. They all said that the normal treatment just didn't work for them.
She explained the diet for them stressed fruit, milk, bread and very little fat. It was very complicated. They had to measure everything they ate-proteins and fats, as well as carbohydrates. These patients had stuck to this diet, only to see their conditions worsen. They, as well as Dr, Schwarzbein were very unhappy.
After monitoring her new patients she came to the conclusion (agreeing with them) that their diet was just not improving their condition. All the carbohydrates added too much sugar to their bodies and affected their insulin in an adverse way. (Remember, it produced a hormonal imbalance.)
Page 2 of 2 - She began to experiment with their diet to find out what truly worked for them.
Eventually, she decided that a diet with healthy protein, whole foods and good healthy fats (not damaged ones) created healthier blood sugar readings and so much more.
Dr. Schwarzbein then decided that anyone can prevent accelerated aging and disease, achieve ideal body composition and extend longevity, by eating the correct diet and living an improved lifestyle.
Notice her comments: "As a physician, I hope to influence the medical profession so that more emphasis is placed on preventive medicine. Giving people the power to attain balance, to heal themselves and to avoid illness instills motivation, in addition to dramatically improving doctor-patient relationships and potentially revolutionizing the "standard of care."
Yes, she also learned that it is all related to diet and lifestyle.
Now she not only helps people with their blood sugar or diabetes, but also with anti-aging and improved body composition.
