Lt. Col. Charles Lowndes Steel, IV, (U.S. Army, Ret.) of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of Heber Springs, died October 29, 2012, at his home. Born in West Point, NY in 1945, he was 67. He was the son of the late Col. and Mrs. Charles L. Steel.
He was a Vietnam veteran and spent 20 years serving his country.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Craig Steel of St. Augustine; son, Charles Lowndes Steel V of Newport; brother, Christopher Steel of Little Rock; sister, Natalie Zahalka of Heber Springs; and grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 1 at St. Francis Episcopal Church Heber Springs. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
