Ruth D. Mims, 97, died November 24, 2012, in Heber Springs, AR. Ruth was born February 15, 1915, in Sterling, KS, to Harry and Dorothy Daenzer. After graduating from Sterling High School and Wesley Nursing School, she served as WWII flight nurse in the European Theater, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Moving to Tampa, FL, after the war, she obtained her pilot’s license and worked as a hospital surgical nurse. She married Newton J. Mims on December 7, 1946. Ruth traveled to all 50 states and numerous foreign countries. She enjoyed crafts, reading, and working puzzles. Her friends and family were blessed through the years with the many beautiful quilts and afghans she made. Ruth and N.J. were members of the Tampa Palma Ceia United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In 1999, they moved to Wichita, KS, to be near family. In 2007, Ruth moved with family to Heber Springs, AR, where she resided at Southridge Village Assisted Living and was a member of Heber Springs First United Methodist Church. Ruth is survived by one sister, Myrtle Mead of Oklahoma City, and many loving nieces and nephews, including Barbara and Harry McClintock of Heber Springs. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 28, at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita, KS.
