Four voices new to Edensong will be part of the group performing its annual Christmas concert at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 2, at the First Baptist Church, 201 N. 4th Street, Heber Springs.
Director Nancy Foss is proud to announce the addition of Alto, Sherry Organ, and Basses, Dennis Organ, Al Henegar, and Rodney Balderee.
Sherry Organ, originally from Ft Worth, Texas, is a retired Assistant Professor of English from Harding University. She holds a B.A. and M.Ed. from Harding and earlier taught at ASU/Beebe. In addition to being a life-long choral singer, she is also an accomplished pianist, serving as an accompanist for various musical groups and individual performers.
Dennis Organ, originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, is a retired Professor of English from Harding, where he also served as Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities. He took his B.A. from Harding, an M.A. from the University of Missouri, and a Ph.D. from Texas Tech. He, too, has been a choral singer from grade school right up to the present moment.
Al Henegar has been Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Heber Springs since September 2011. Many readers of the Sun-Times are acquainted with his weekly newspaper column. Prior to coming to First Presbyterian in Heber Springs, Pastor Henegar served as a Chaplain at UAMS, as well as Coordinator of the Palliative Care Service. He has been a singer in school and church choirs, and, early on, was both a Church Music Director and Choir Director.
Bass singer Rodney Balderee is the Cantor (song leader) for St. Francis Episcopal Church in Heber Springs. He has been a member of the Arkansas Choral Society in Little Rock for more than fifteen years and has enjoyed singing all his life. For EdenSong, in addition to singing as a bass-baritone, he will do some of the solo work.
The concert will feature Vivaldi's "Gloria," as well as a selection of Christmas music, including carols with which the audience will be invited to join in.
There is no admission charge for the concert, but contributions to the EdenSong Music
Fund will be gratefully accepted.
