Arnold M. McCarty, a longtime resident of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away Saturday,
December 1, 2012, at his home at the age of 92 years. Born March 19, 1920, at Woodrow, he was the son of the late Andy and Nancy Arizona (Everett) McCarty.
Mr. McCarty was a retired farmer. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army and was awarded two bronze stars and a bronze star medal for his service to our country. Mr. McCarty was a member of Kever-Taylor V.F.W. Post in Greers Ferry, and he was a Mason. He was a member of the West Side Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McCarty was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy McCarty, Bobby McCarty, and Haze McCarty; two sisters, Jessie George and Elva Jennings; and one daughter-in-law, Joy Faith McCarty.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pearl (Davis) McCarty of Greers Ferry; one son, Jerry McCarty and his wife, Cassandra, of Greers Ferry; one daughter, Patricia Thomas and her husband, Larry, of Heber Springs; two brothers, Max McCarty of Hazen and Ted McCarty of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Jean Bennett of Greenville, Missouri; six grandchildren, James and Jeremy Thomas, Rebekah Coursey, Tiffany Stephenson, Paul McCarty, and Caleb McCarty; and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. McCarty is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 3, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at West Side Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the West Side Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Shiloh Cross Roads Cemetery. Bill Jennings, Maurice Jennings, Donny George, Terry McCarty, J. D. Everett, Bob Wilcox, Ray Moore, and Scott Stark will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home. www.olmstead.cc
