Wilma Hansen died December 19, 2012

Wilma Eileen Hansen went to be with her Lord  December 19, 2012. Wilma was born in Kenton, Ohio, May 27, 1926, to Harry and Ruth (Guider) Steiner who have both predeceased her. Wilma was married to Robert Krummrey and Calvin Hansen who have also predeceased her.

She is survived by her brother Robert and sister Mildred who both reside in Kenton. She is also survived by her sons Terry (Mary Ann), Barry (Mary, dec.), Jerry (Betsy), Harry (Trish), stepsons Dale (Ellen), and Max. She leaves behind many grandchildren including Kelli (DR) Reid, Jodi (Rob) Nye, Eric Krummrey,  Michael (Kim) Krummrey, Aaron (Tiffany) Krummrey, Katelin (Clay) Williamson, Chelsea Krummrey, Andrew Krummrey, step-grandchildren Kent (Penny) Kidder, and Gary Dale (Didi) Kidder. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Wilma graduated valedictorian of her class and pursued a nursing career after graduating  from White Cross Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She coordinated the formation of an Ohio community clinic to administer the first polio vaccine in that area. She was an American Red Cross volunteer for over 30 years and trained hundreds in CPR and basic first aid.

Wilma enjoyed flying and got her pilot's license in 1968. A fact that some may not know about her is that Wilma had a passion for archery which she shared with her children. She was the State Amateur Champion and placed third nationally in Watkins Glenn, N.Y. When she was president of the Jackson Bowman's Club, she was instrumental in purchasing the land and setting up a challenging field course.

Wilma was the driving force in recognizing the need for a program to help children in the community and founded the Region 2 Community Action Agency Head Start for both Jackson and Hillsdale counties. Wilma received her Certified Financial Planner designation in 1991 and became a financial planner for American Express. She was excited about her new career because this was still working with people - now for their financial health instead of their physical health.

Wilma's church family was very special to her. She made wonderful friends there and especially enjoyed her Bible study group and reading her Bible daily. Wilma encouraged her sons in their endeavors and was very proud of their accomplishments. She enjoyed hosting family dinners at her home in what the family fondly referred to as the "banquet center."

A celebration of life for Wilma Hansen will be held Friday, December 21, 2012 at 12:00 noon at the Hillsdale United Brethren Church with luncheon following. Interment will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery in Stockbridge.  The family will receive friends for visitation Friday from 11:00 a.m until the time of the service at the church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Van Horn Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
