A winter snow storm on Christmas evening dropped almost a foot of snow in some areas
Whether you view it as a treat or a nightmare, Cleburne County was hit with a rare event this week…. a white Christmas. A massive winter storm arrived from the west on the afternoon of December 25. Around 3pm, rain began falling in the area and quickly turned into sleet. Thunder could be heard rolling around the clouds during the winter storm in Heber Springs. During the overnight hours, the rain/sleet turned into snow and by the morning of December 26, some residents awoke to almost a foot of snow in their front yards. Most government offices and businesses were closed Wednesday morning and although city streets were passable, drivers were still urged to stay home unless they had to travel out of necessity. Those that did have to travel were urged to drive slowly and avoid streets with an excessive amount of snow buildup.
