West Side's dynamic trio of point guard Logan Bailey, center Ben Hargrove and shooting guard Bryce Hipp combined for 55 points on Friday as the Eagles hammered Wonderview 80-51 in the first round of the 1A, Region 3 Tournament in Greers Ferry. Forward Tanner Galeazzi added 10 points, guard Keaton Sutterfield had nine and power forward Tyler Inman chipped in six for the Eagles, who jumped out to a 22-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. “That's one of the best games we have played,” said West Side Coach Bennie Brown. “We encourage the kids to peak at the end of the season and we did that last year and hopefully that is what is happening this year. We have a slogan to win the last game that you play. If we win the last game we play we win the state tournament,” Brown chuckled. West Side lost to the Daredevils earlier in the season on the road. Brown said he was a little nervous entering Friday's elimination game. “The kids felt pretty sure they were going to make it but I was nervous. I didn't show it and I didn't let them know it. I saw Wonderview play last week and they looked like a much better ball team than I had seen all season long.” Hargrove dominated the paint, pouring in seven points in the first quarter, while Bailey added six, including a putback late in the period for a 22-10 lead. Already leading by 12 entering the second quarter, West Side outscored the Daredevils 24-19 in a fast-paced period as Bailey pumped in 11 points and Hargrove added six, including four free throws. West Side ran Wonderview out of the gym in the third period, outscoring the Daredevils 23-11 behind seven points from Hipp, who nailed 3 three-pointers in the game, while Hargrove added six points in the third quarter and Sutterfield chipped in five. The Eagles (27-8) rallied to beat No. 5 ranked Sacred Heart 46-44 in the semifinal round on Saturday. Hargrove, who scored a game-high 16 points, registered the winning basket late in the game. West Side trailed 16-5 after the first quarter and 26-22 at halftime. The Rebels extended their lead to 33-22 early in the fourth quarter before West Side came storming back behind nine second-half points from Bailey, who finished the game with 15 points. Galeazzi added six points for West Side, Hipp had five and Sutterfield chipped in four. Adam Hoyt and Hamp Maus each scored 15 points to lead Sacred Heart.
