Heber Springs walloped West Side 12-2 in five innings on Tuesday in Greers Ferry as catcher Hannah Mangum paved the way with three hits, three RBI and one run scored.
West Side starting pitcher Ashley Gentry tossed a scoreless top half of the first and the Lady Eagles took the game's first lead in the bottom half of the frame.
Sydnee Phillips drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a double off the bat of Alexis Barnes. After Phillips scored on a wild pitch, Heber starting pitcher McKenzie Cresswell retired the side with a strikeout, leaving Barnes stranded at third.
Heber's bats came alive in the top of the second. Following an error, which allowed Cresswell to reach second, Mangum crushed an RBI double to the alley in left center, tying the score at 1-1.
Makenzie Martin followed with a triple over first base and into the right field corner, scoring Mangum, and Martin also came around to score on a fielding miscue as the Lady Panthers took a 3-1 lead.
Gentry worked around further trouble, but Cresswell began to take charge on the mound for Heber, holding the Lady Eagles scoreless in the second and third inning.
Heber added an insurance run in the top of the third and broke the game wide open in the fourth, scoring five runs.
West Side pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lady Panthers added three more runs in the fifth for a run-rule victory.
Following Mangum's 3-for-3 performance, shortstop Alexis Ingram (2-for-3) contributed two runs, two stolen bases and one RBI, while third base player Sarah Peeler (2-for-4) finished with two stole bases, two runs and two RBI. Cresswell (2-for-2) also had two hits and Martin (1-for-2) scored one run and drove home two more.
Second base player Courtney Verser (1-for-4) had a big three RBI base knock and she scored a run, while center fielder Morgan Fires (1-for-2) collected two runs and left fielder Skye Miller drove home a run.
After visiting Perryville on Thursday, the Lady Panthers (4-3) host Lonoke in a key 2-4A Conference showdown today at 4:30 p.m.
