Kathryn L. Horton, 89, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa. She was born October 10, 1923 in Dundee, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Ruby Johnson and resided in Whiting, Iowa at Pleasant View Care Center.
Kathryn married Norman Heckman in 1943 (killed in action in Italy during WWII). She then remarried to Eugene P. Horton in 1945 in Correctionville, Iowa. Kathryn & Gene lived in numerous places during his military career in the United States Marine Corps, with favorites being Swansboro, NC; Rochelle, IL; Heber Springs, AR and Sloan, IA.
Kathryn was a graduate of Ellis Business College in Elgin, IL and held positions with Elgin Watch Factory, General Electric, Caron Yarn Factory, Lindsey’s Resort and the Stockholm Restaurant.
She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Salix Women’s Cub, and did volunteer work at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, IA.
Surviving are her beloved Husband Gene Horton and sons Walter G. Horton of Sloan, IA, and William G. Horton of Boxford, MA; two brothers, Clarence Johnson, Ronald Johnson and one sister Barb Seyller; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband (Norman); her Daughter, Cynthia Jean Horton; Grandson Michael Horton; brothers & sisters: Jane Whiteside, Helen Carlson, Hazel Johnson, Richard Johnson, and Marion Schultz.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
