  • On Thursday, March 14, Heber Springs High School held a job fair for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in the gymnasium on the high school campus.  Spearheaded by Coach Gaye Stark, the fair was held as part of the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program.  According to it’s website, “Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is a state-based national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing dropouts among young people who are most at-risk.  In more than three decades of operation, JAG has delivered consistent, compelling results – helping nearly three-quarters of a million young people stay in school through graduation, pursue postsecondary education and secure quality entry-level jobs leading to career advancement opportunities.”

Local merchants were on hand to give students information about real world opportunities for part-time and summer employment, as well as careers beyond graduation.  Applications were given out to students and several walked away with jobs by local businesses.  “This is a great opportunity for the kids,” said Stark.  By bringing employers and students together in an informal, personalized setting, it provided students with an opportunity to experience face-to-face skills that will be important for future employment prospects.
