The Heber Springs Chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) took honors on March 13 at the State Leadership Meeting in Reynolds Auditorium at UCA in Conway. The conference theme was “Explore Your Horizons: FCCLA is Your Passport to Explore”. The Heber Springs Chapter was once again recognized as a Gold Star Chapter.
Twenty students were recognized for completing Power of One, a program that helps students find and use their personal power. Members set their own goals, work to achieve them, and enjoy the results. The skills members learn in Power of One help them now and in the future in school, with friends and family, in their future at college, and on the job. Those recognized from Heber Springs included: Sarah Allen, Alexis Brant, Alexis Baker Brown, Tyler Cathey, Courtney Cooper, Hailey Crowder, Korl Cusick, Lindsey Davis, Tiffany Devries, Bianca Elslander, Shannon Grayson, Lexi Hartman, Caitlyn McLaren, Jessica Mooney, Kaitlyn Music, Alicia Osburn, Madeline Owen, Mariah Richardson, Danielle Scarbrough, Taylor Thompson.
In the State Star Events competition, the following students were recognized for their Silver Ratings:
Korl Cusick, Bianca Elslander and Lexi Hartman - Junior Illustrated Talk
Lindsey Davis, Alaina Furey, Alicia Osburn – Junior Life Event Planning
Tyler Cathey – Junior Recycle and Redesign
Shannon Grayson – Senior Job Interview
One team achieved a gold rating and was selected as one of two projects to advance to Nationals in their category:
Caitlyn Crowder, Sarah Allen, and Hailey Crowder - Senior National Programs in Action
Their project was entitled “Ready, Safe, Drive” and focused on the importance of wearing seatbelts, and the risks of texting while driving, and drinking and driving. They will compete at t Nationals in Nashville, TN in July.
Junior Caitlyn Crowder was also inducted as a State Officer for the 2013-2014 school year. As such she will serve on the Arkansas FCCLA Executive Council as Vice-President of Programs, and will be one of six students representing Arkansas at the National FCCLA Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN in July; the Capitol Leadership Program in Washington, DC in September; and the National Cluster Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina in November.
