  • Jason Leon Leavy, 28, of Jacksonville, was born March 13, 1984 in Helena, to J. W. and Pearlie Leavy. Jason was the ninth child born to this union of 10 children. Jason was a member of the Central High School Class of 2002. He was a member of the Central High School Acappella Choir, ROTC, Gospel Choir, Upward Bound, and was a varsity letterman in track. Jason attended Boys State. He went on to further his education at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Jason was a member of Greater Powerhouse COGIC where he won numerous awards for various Sunday School competitions. He also attended Beulah COGIC in Biscoe. Jason was employed at Remington Ammunition of Lonoke for over seven years. Jason was an amazing son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a fun-loving and comical person that always made others laugh. He always had a smile on his face that was simply contagious. Jason departed this life March 25, 2013 in Tacoma, Wash. He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, J. W. and Pearlie Leavy; his grandfather, Rev. Spurgeon (Velma) Chandler; grandmother, Elnora Leavy; brothers, Jerome Leavy, Demetrius Leavy, Kelton (Sherie) Leavy, Anthony Leavy, Spurgeon Leavy and Jamie Leavy; his sisters, Arletha Leavy, Mary Leavy and Lazoria Leavy-Golden; a special niece that was raised with him as a sister, Danyele Robinson; four uncles, Anthony (Deloris) Leavy, Kirk (Vanessa) Leavy, Lee Andrew Leavy and Roger Johnson; five aunts, Lazora Cunningham, Rosie Ward, Sadie Chandler, Lacreshia Reinhardt and Jean (Johnnie, Sr.) Jones; a godmother, Mable Pruitt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Funeral services for Jason Leon Leavy will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6 at the Greater Powerhouse COGIC. Superintendent Alex J. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery. Jason will lie in state on Saturday, April 6 from noon to 2 p.m. at the church. This will be the final viewing. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5 in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel.
