Rose Bud defeated Buffalo Island Central 5-3 and Cedar Ridge 11-3, before falling to Rector 18-4 on Saturday evening in the lower division championship game of the Heber Springs Parks and Recreation Invitational Tournament.
The Lady Ramblers, who only return three starters from a team that advanced to the 3A state finals last season, edged BIC Saturday morning behind Dana Naquin, who picked up the win on the mound while also collecting two hits in three at-bats.
Marissa Holland, who started last season along with the Naquin twins (Dana and Destany), had two hits and drove home two runs in three at-bats, while Tess Capps also finished 2-for-3, including one RBI.
Rose Bud then advanced to Saturday's semifinal round and crushed Cedar Ridge as Kaytie Herndon led the way, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI. Holland (3-for-4) also contributed three hits, while Paige Passmore delivered a bases-clearing triple, which produced three runs.
Dana Naquin picked up the win on the mound for Rose Bud. The Lady Ramblers advanced to the finals, where they lost to Rector, which beat Lamar 7-0 in the first round and defeated Corning 6-2 in the semifinals.
