  • When we say “homeless”, we typically think of the word in terms of people that have fallen into an unfortunate place in their lives with no shelter, no food, and no support.  Humans are the only beings that are homeless.  Millions of pets around the country are “homeless” as well.  Here in Cleburne County, we have an organization dedicated to finding homes for our local homeless pets.  The Heber Springs Humane Society works tirelessly to shelter, feed, and prepare healthy pets for loving homes with residents in community.

To further help find caring families for these beautiful animals, The Heber Springs Humane Society and The Sun-Times are coming together to bring you a weekly feature that will be titled the H.S. Humane Society-Sun Times Pet of the Week.  Each Friday, we will feature a pet available for adoption at the Humane Society.  The feature will include a photo, name, and description of the pet along with instructions for adopting it.

The Heber Springs Humane Society is located at 49 Shelter Lane in Heber Springs.  Even if it’s not the “Pet of the Week” you’re interested in, their doors are open from 12pm to 4:30pm each day except Sunday for you to visit and find your “forever friend.”  As with any charitable organization, funding is needed.  If you’re interested in making a donation to them, you can contact them at 501-362-7322.  They also accept donations of aluminum cans.  There is a drop-off container on the property for you to bring your bags of cans.

Many of these animals are in the shelter because their owners have abandoned them.  The Humane Society and The Sun-Times would like to remind everyone that animal abandonment is a crime.  Anyone caught abandoning an animal will be prosecuted and face penalties of a $1000 fine and/or 6 months in jail.  This applies to animal abandonment in general, not just at the gates of the shelter.

We are proud to be teaming with the Heber Springs Humane Society to bring you our “Pet of the Week” and hope that, together, we can find these pets the homes they deserve.
