David wrote, “Why do you stand afar off, oh Lord? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?” (Psalms 10:1)
It may be easy to think that one should react with a brave and courageous attitude while dealing with life’s circumstances. However, the OT gives us a Biblical example of one man who struggled to remain positive while navigating through the desert times in his life. David, a spiritual giant; a man after God’s own heart, was not afraid to spill his guts when he felt alone and abandoned by God. While we can all appreciate his honesty, his thoughts were not kept in the silence of his heart, but he mustered up enough courage to ask, “God where are you?” “Why do you seem to hide from me when I need you the most?”
Much like David, I too have found myself in situations where I could not find traces of God. I longed to feel His presence and I so desperately wanted Him to remind me that He was close by. However, while he remained at a distance, He also kept His silence.
Although I felt shunned by God, He was definitely at work. Once I regained focus, I was able to recognize His handprints. The impressions of His handprints were on every situation, which was sure proof that He had been with me all along.
So often we allow our circumstances to cloud our view of seeing God working in our lives. Moreover, God just want us to trust Him and let the evidence reveal the truth. Proverbs 3:5 instructs us to Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not to our own understanding.
Your experience may indicate that God is in a far distance. The truth is that God “is not far from you at all.” Even David admits later that, “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him. (Psalms 124:18) My friend, you can rejoice in this wonderful promise, knowing that you have a God who is always there; He is always ready to listen, and He is always ready to love you through each and every circumstance life may thrust upon you.
