  • ASU-Heber Springs will be offering a number of continuing education classes for the summer

  • Continuing Education Computer Courses Offered 
    The Continuing Education Department at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs, a center of ASU-Beebe, will offer several computer classes this summer at the Latimer Center.  
    Computer Basics II will be held June 10-13, or July 8-11, from 10 a.m.-noon. Instructor Rena Kelley will explore sending e-mails, working with pictures, and utilizing computer programs.  Cost for the course is $30.  
    Microsoft Word for Beginners will be held June 10-13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Taught by Sharron Brown, will explore the basics of using the software for creating and managing word processing documents. Cost for the course is $40.              
    Microsoft Excel for Beginners will be held July 15-18, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Instructor Sharron Brown will instruct the class in designing a multifunctional workbook to be used for file sharing and other purposes. Cost for the course is $40.

    Health and Safety Courses Available  
    The Continuing Education Department at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs, a center of ASU-Beebe, will offer several water sports, personal health and safety classes this summer.  
    Snorkeling, Try Scuba, and Open Water Diver are two-hour workshops held any one day during designated dates throughout June, July, or August.  Taught by Bruce Fletcher, SSI Certified, the classes will be held at the Heber Springs Community Center pool beginning at 6:30 p.m.  
    Snorkeling will cost $135 plus a $25 pool fee; Try Scuba will cost $60 plus a $25 pool fee; and Open Water Diver will cost $420 plus a $75 pool fee.  
    Additionally, a health and safety course in CPR/First Aid/Automated External Defibrillator Use will be held June 24-25, from 6-8 p.m.at the Latimer Center. Cost of the course is $30.  
    Refuse to be a Victim will be held June 18 or July 16, from 1-5 p.m. in the McCoy Room. Taught by instructor Durline Bechdoldt, the class will prepare students to develop a personal safety strategy before it is needed. Cost of the class is $35.

    Special Interest Courses
    The Continuing Education Department at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs, a center of ASU-Beebe, will offer several special interest, hobby, and personal development courses this summer.    
    Vacation Photos will be held June 6/June 11, from 6-8 p.m.; PLT Environmental Education will be held June 22, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; Drawing with Dimension will be held June 10-13, from 9-10:45 a.m.; Calligraphy will be held June 10-13, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.; Landscape Painting will be held June 17-20, from 9-10:45 a.m.; Abstract Painting will be held June 17-20, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.; Drawing Human Features will be held June 24-27, from 9-10:45 a.m.; and Hand Building With Clay will be held June 3-6 & 24-26, from 1-3 p.m.

    Continuing Education Children’s Art Programs
    The Continuing Education Department at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs, a center of ASU-Beebe, will offer several children’s art and hobby programs this summer.  
    Programs for kindergarten through sixth grade, taught by Loretta Myles will include Native American Art to be held June 10-13, from 9-10:45 a.m., cost $45; Hand Building With Clay to be held June 10-13 and June 24-26, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., cost $75; My Life’s Artwork to be held June 17-20, from 9-10:45 p.m., cost $45; Fibers Art to be held June 17-20, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., cost $45; and Printmaking to be held June 24-27, from 9-10:45 a.m., cost $45. All materials are included in the costs.  
    Programs for kindergarten through sixth grade, taught by Houston Allen will include Drawing Basics to be held June 24-27, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., cost $45; Calligraphy to be held July 8-11, from 9-10:45 p.m., cost $45; Painting the World Around You to be held July 8-11, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., cost $45; Painting with Watercolor to be held July 15-18, 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., cost $45; and Read, Play…Art to be held July 22-25, 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., cost $45. All materials are included in the costs.  
    Programs for grades second to eighth grade, taught by Houston Allen will include Illusions of Art to be held July 15-18, from 9-10:45 a.m., cost $45; and Dimension and Perspective Drawing to be held July 22-25, from 9-10:45 a.m., cost $45, with all materials included in the costs.

    Continuing Education Classes in July 
    The Continuing Education Department at Arkansas State University-Heber Springs, a center of ASU-Beebe, will sponsor several language arts and gymnastic classes in July.  
    The following courses taught by Brittany Jones, will be held at the Academic Center. Beginning Spanish I for ages nine to eleven years old will be held July 8-11, from 6-7:30 p.m. Beginning Spanish II for ages nine to eleven years old will be held July 15-18, from 6-7:30 p.m.           
    Additionally, Beginning Spanish I for ages 12 to 14 years old will be held July 22-25, from 6-7:30 p.m., and Beginning Spanish II for ages 12 to 14 years old will be held July 29-Aug. 2, from 6-7:30 p.m.   
    The following courses taught by instructor Rene Kelley, will be held at the Academic Center. Beginning Gymnastics will be held July 8-11, from 1-2 p.m.; Cheer will be held July 8-11, from 2-3 p.m; and Intermediate Gymnastics will be held July 8-11, from 3-4 p.m.
