  • As long as I can remember we have been told that we need to walk, jog, run, swim, or just keep moving.  Why is exercise or movement so important?
     
    There are many answers as to why it is necessary to move, but today we will discuss only one of them.
     
    That reason is our lymphatic system.
     
    Now, for those who don’t know just how important that system is, what does the lymphatic system actually do?
     
    I suppose I think of it as our high tech interior garbage pick-up system.  It is comprised of organs, ducts, and nodes. The Lymphatic system helps keep our insides cleaned up - sweeps up and retrieves poisons, toxins, old proteins, bacteria, viruses, parts of cells and much-much more.  To do this it transports a watery clear fluid called lymph. It is a fantastic aid to our immune system by destroying pathogens and filtering waste so that the lymph can be safely returned to the circulatory system.
     
    So of course, it is a vital part in keeping us well and healthy.
     
    Now, one important aspect we need to know is that, unlike our cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system does not contain a pump, like our hardworking heart.  That means we must move so our lymphatic system will function as it is supposed to.  That’s one of the many reasons we need to move regularly.
     
    What is the perfect Activity for the Lymph system?
     
     
    Many people feel that activity, or exercise is just plain boring or not any fun, but there is one exercise that I think is Great fun, and works so well for the entire body, and especially the lymphatic system.
     
    That activity or exercise is rebounding or bouncing on a rebounder. (Many call it a mini trampoline.)
     
    Rebounding is super great for lymph movement and drainage. In other words, jumping on your trampoline! So if you’ve got one of them, start bouncing.  If you don’t have one, it would be worth getting one, (your kids will love you for it) just make sure it is a good one and that it will hold up. 
     
    Many people, such as those with chronic fatigue syndrome often have depressed immune systems, and a healthy lymphatic system can reduce their symptoms.  (It is important for everyone though)

    With most forms of exercise, you have to spend as much energy decelerating as you do accelerating. But when you exercise with a rebounder, at the bottom of a bounce the force is recycled upwards without you having to expend extra energy. For those with chronic fatigue syndrome, this energy saving is a godsend.
    When you bounce downwards, the mat absorbs the impact. Even though the impact is cushioned, it still strengthens the entire body more thoroughly than any other form of exercise. (It actually strengthens each and every cell of the entire body with each bounce.)If you suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome, a strong body is your goal.
    Gentle on the Joints
    Chronic fatigue syndrome sufferers as well as many others usually have joint problems as well as much pain. With this form of exercise the mat absorbs up to 87% of the shock. Thus exercise using a rebounder causes very little wear and tear on the body, which is perfect for those with chronic fatigue syndrome.
     
    It is also a perfect way to get your lymphatic system working optimally.
     
    Besides not being boring, rebounding is a FUN way to gain the activity of the motion your body so desperately needs.  Just put on some of your favorite fast music, and start bouncing or even dancing on your rebounder--to the music.
     
    If you haven’t been exercising, or if you have been ill, move at your own level.  You might even need to begin with what is called the ‘health bounce.’  It is where your feet do not even leave the mat.  It is very low-level.
     
    If you are able, just slowly move your activity up, and the fun automatically follows.
     
    One more caution, if needed use the back or a heavy, strong chair to hold on to, or get a rebounder with a safety bar. 
     
    But be sure to have fun!!
