We’ve all heard about it. Most of us have some general ideas about what’s available at it. But do you really know what’s at the Heber Springs Community Center for you? When we asked some random people in the community if they knew what was available at the Community Center, the three most popular answers were swimming, basketball, and event space. While these three are some of the great features available at the facility, the Community Center is host to an array of other activities available to the public.
A tour of the facility revealed a plethora of rooms for use, not only by those hosting a meeting or celebration, but also for a host of educational and physical health activities. One activity of note, was the Silver Sneakers group, which is designated for seniors 65 and over but open to anyone with an interest. This group, which meets Monday through Friday from 10-11am, gives participants the chance to engage in Muscle Strength & Range of Motion (MSROM) activities. On Monday and Friday from 11am to noon, the group participates in yoga exercises for a whole body health experience.
The massive gym can seat 900 people, as evidenced be the recent Chamber of Commerce banquet. When not in use as a whole unit, the gym is subdivided into smaller courts for activities such as basketball, tennis, and, for what was a new term for us, pickleball. According to information given by the Center, pickleball is a “cross between badminton with a lower net with a wiffle ball and paddles.”
Among the other features listed by the center are an indoor walking/running track, volleyball/walleyball, a cardio equipment room, and of course the impressive aquatic center with its 6 lane Olympic sized pool. Free wifi is also available to enjoy 21st century connectivity.
The Heber Springs Community Center is located at 201 Bobbie Jean Lane in Heber Springs. For information on membership rates and some of the other activities available, contact them at 501-362-4901.
