Thursday is Independence Day and The Sun-Times would like to give you a rundown on planned celebrations and where citizens are allowed to shoot private fireworks this year. Both Heber Springs and Greers Ferry are planning fireworks extravaganzas this year. The annual fireworks display in Heber Springs will take place on Friday, July 5th, at 9pm at Sandy Beach. KFFB, 106.1FM, will provide the simulcast music for the display. Pre-fireworks entertainment will include musical acts by Imagine That at 6:30pm and Ryan Couron at 7:30pm. Inflatables will also be at the beach for the children. Greers Ferry will be holding their festivities on Thursday, July 4th, in the Park after 5pm. There will be a parade, vendors and music. The fireworks display will start after dark.
Mother Nature graced the area with cooler temperatures and plenty of rain this year, so private fireworks will be allowed in permitted areas. Greers Ferry, Concord, Pangburn, and Quitman will allow the shooting of fireworks inside city limits this year. Shooting fireworks inside the city limits of Heber Springs and Rose Bud will not be allowed. County Judge Jerry Holmes has said that citizens in the county are permitted to shoot private fireworks this year. “We ask that you be mindful of your surroundings, and especially take into consideration your neighbors. We would also ask that you refrain from shooting fireworks after 10 pm to eliminate numerous complaints that we receive,” said Sheriff Marty Moss.
Please remember to shoot fireworks responsibly. Without proper care and supervision, these items of holiday beauty can turn destructive. The Sun-Times and its staff would like to wish everyone a fun and safe Independence Day holiday!
