West Side concluded its season with a 9-3 loss to 5A Greenbrier on a steaming hot Thursday in Greers Ferry.
Aided by three errors, Greenbrier jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning behind a two-out RBI single off the bat of Josh Porter.
West Side answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the first, beginning when Hayden Gilmore lined a high-hop single past first base. Tyler Cowley followed with another single and with two out Dalton Treece slammed an RBI single to right field, scoring Gilmore.
Bryce Hipp, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a wild pitch then Dalton Treece came across on another wild pitch, tying the score at 3-all before Greenbrier pitcher Jordan Patton worked out of the jam with a strikeout, leaving one runner stranded in scoring position.
After a scoreless second frame, the visiting Panthers hung four runs on four hits in the top half of the third as Ryan McKnight, Kyle Ferguson and Jake Bynum strung together consecutive singles and each scored.
Patton helped his cause with a 2 RBI single, which scored Bynum and Josh Dollarhide, who walked with two outs to keep the inning alive for Patton.
Patton, who held the Eagles hitless after the first inning, finished with five strikeouts while walking two in four innings of work.
Leading 7-3, Greenbrier added two more runs in the top of the fourth and final inning, highlighted by McKnight's in-the-park home run, which skipped into the right field corner.
Ferguson and McKnight each finished 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored to pace Greenbrier.
