  • On Monday, a Heber police officer reported seeing a small scooter cross Main St and pulled the cycle over for improper lighting.  The officer stated he was concerned the improper lighting could cause an accident.  When the information for the driver, Justin Armstrong, 30, of Heber Springs, was run through dispatch, the officer learned Armstrong had an active warrant out of White County.  The officer asked Armstrong for permission to search the scooter and Armstrong reportedly agreed to the search.  While searching the scooter, the officer reported he found two syringes and a brown vial with a liquid substance inside.  When asked about the substance, Armstrong is alleged to have claimed the syringes and the vial were his and the substance inside was methamphetamine.  Armstrong was arrested and taken to the Cleburne County Detention Center.  Lab tests on the substance confirmed that it was methamphetamine.  Armstrong was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, and was also being held on the warrant for White County.

In other police news, on July 17, an officer reported witnessing a car perform a late stop at a stop sign and come to a halt partially in the intersection lane.  The officer followed the car and pulled the driver over.  The officer reported noticing slurred speech on the driver.  The man reportedly told the officer that he hadn’t drank any alcohol, but he had taken Hydrocodones and muscle relaxers a few hours before and that he “wanted to die.”  The officer arrested the 52-year-old Heber man and charged him with reckless driving and misdemeanor DWI-Drugs.

On July 19, an officer reported arriving at a residence on E. Sugarloaf to serve a misdemeanor warrant.  As the officer was standing at the front door, he reported seeing a bong on the living room table.  He entered the house and in addition to the bong, he reported finding a pipe and a bag of marijuana.  A further search of the residence turned up no other drugs of paraphernalia.  The 27-year-old Heber man they were seeking for the warrant was arrested on the misdemeanor warrant.  The 19-year-old resident of the home was also arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
