Next week, Heber Springs will host the 77th annual statewide convention for the Arkansas Municipal Police Association (AMPA). According to their website, the AMPA was formed in 1936 and it’s purpose is to provide “a strong voice for law enforcement officers” both inside and outside the workplace.
Sgt. Lloyd White of the Heber Springs Police Department will be inducted as the new president of the AMPA. White has served on the police force in Heber since 1987 and will now also represent municipal police officers across the state. Three prior officers from Heber Springs have served as presidents of the organization in the past, but White’s induction will mark the first time the statewide convention has been held in Heber Springs. Prior presidents from Heber were Huey Chastain, Fred Byford, and David Stogsdill.
Included with statewide convention meetings between the association members will be an induction banquet with Representative Josh Miller.
The Sun-Times will be covering the opening ceremonies on Wednesday, August 7, as well as the induction banquet on Thursday, August 8.
