Evelyn Marie West Latch Smith, age 81, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, August 12, 2013, at the Baxter County Regional Medical Center, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Evelyn was born on June 1, 1932, in Oregon to the parents of Claude and Mabel Gunnels West. Evelyn lived her early years in Corona, California, attending school and working with her parents who were owner/operators of the Yellow Cab Company of Corona. In 1950, Evelyn married Adrian Latch, then in the US Navy, of Heber Springs, Arkansas and three children were born of that marriage. She was later wed to John Smith of Drasco.
Evelyn was a home maker and mother. At one time, she worked at the Cunning's Drug Store, Corona, California. Evelyn was a long time resident of Heber Springs. After moving to Heber Springs, Arkansas in 1964, she worked many years for Tom Whitaker at Whitaker's Drug Store, Bill Stover at The Little Shoe Store, as a clerk at the local social services office and at Aromatique, all in Heber Springs. Most recent, she was a resident at the Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Evelyn is survived by a sister, Nancy Mizukami of Laguna Hills, California; three children; Nancy Tobin of Desert Hot Springs, Califomia; Randall Latch of Springfield, Missouri, and wife Cindy; and Tracee Latch of Cabot, Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews in Arkansas, California, and Oregon . She has five grandchildren in Arkansas, Missouri and California; seven great grandchildren in Arkansas and Missouri. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jo Miller, and brother in law, Bob Miller, formerly of Riverside, CA.
Memorial services were held in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center.
