  • Concord senior Luke Cornett fired an 18-hole round of 73, leading the 1A defending state champion Pirates to second place this past Friday at the White River Carnival Tournament held at Batesville Municipal Golf Course. Cornett, who recently tied a course record with a score of 63 at Cooper's Hawk in Melbourne, won medalist honors at last year's 1A state tournament. Class 2A Cedar Ridge won the White River Carnival Tournament with a three-player score of 253 ¬ 9 strokes ahead of Concord (262). Class 3A Melbourne placed third (274), 4A Southside Batesville finished fourth (289), 1A Midland was fifth (290), 2A Salem took sixth (295), 4A Cave City (308) was seventh and 1A Izard County Consolidated (345) rounded out the eight-team tournament. Following Cornett, Jacob Webb shot 91 and TJ Richardson finished with a 98 for the Pirates. The Pirates return home Thursday for a match at Tannenbaum Golf Club in Drasco. Tee time is set for 3:30 p.m.
