Edward G. Gratzer, 93, died peacefully at home in Denver, NC, in the presence of family on August 17, 2013. He was born in Syracuse, New York, attended Syracuse University, served in the United States Army throughout World War II, and then married his hometown sweetheart, Margaret, his wife of 65 years. Edward retired from his career at Crucible Steel/Colt Industries and settled in the lakeshore golf course community of Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 2009. He was also preceded in death by his first son, Edward N. Gratzer (wife, Donna), and is survived by Edward N. Gratzer’s two sons, Tim (wife, Cynthia) and Travis (wife, Shanna) and their families, which include four great-grandchildren: Garek, Coby, Ella, and Chloe. Edward G. Gratzer is also survived by his three other sons: Alan Gratzer, his wife, Nancy, and their children, Abby, Ryan, Mandy, and foster-son, Aaron. Abby and her husband, Corey, also have two great-grandchildren of Edward’s, Elliot and Oliver. Son, Steve Gratzer, lives in Texas with his wife, Kelly, and has two children, Haley and Christian. And, Edward’s son, Gary Gratzer, resides in Denver, NC with his wife, Andrea, and their son, Maxwell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Meals On Wheels, PO Box 831, Heber Springs, AR, 72543, as Edward and Margaret Gratzer were active volunteers assisting in the delivery of meals throughout their many years of comfortable retirement living on Eden Isle in Heber Springs, AR. Edward and Margaret were also members of the First Presbyterian Church of Heber Springs and the family would like to thank them for their prayers.
