Reginald Percy Smith (“Reggie”) was born Dec. 30, 1973, in Helena. He was the only son born to the union of the late Gwendolyn Marie Jefferson and Nathaniel Smith Sr. God called him home on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 with his loved ones surrounding him. Preceding him in death are his mother, Gwendolyn Marie Jefferson Smith, his grandmother, Katie Elizabeth Price Jefferson, an uncle, Percy James Jefferson and a grandfather, Earnest Smith. Reggie professed and accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Centennial Missionary Baptist Church in Helena. He renewed his walk with Christ in June 1998. He was a current member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Tenn. He was educated in the Helena-West Helena School System. He was a graduate of the Central High School class of 1991. He attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and Southeast College of Technology in Memphis, Tenn. Reggie worked in the restaurant business for many years until he began a career in the medical field. Although working a traditional job, Reggie was pursuing and fulfilling his dream of owning his own business, being his own “boss.” As a result, he was selected and approved to be listed in the 2013 Edition of the Global Professional Network. Whatever he did, he gave it his best. Reggie was affectionately called, “Cool,” “Smooth,” “Bruh 'n Law,” and “Reg” to name a few. He volunteered at the mission and sponsored two children with One Child Matters. He did not meet any strangers. He was always willing to step up and lend a helping hand. He found a way to help. Reggie loved people, and he loved his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his father, Nathaniel (Learn) Smith Sr. of Helena-West Helena; sisters, Tina Smith (Frank) Walker of Nashville, Tenn., Regina Smith Ingram of Atoka, Tenn., Wendy Smith of Bartlett, Tenn., Ida Mae Smith of Little Rock, Avery (Terrence) Lily of Chicago, Ill.; his brothers, Nathaniel (Mary) Smith Jr., of Memphis, Alvin (Sheila) Smith of Goldsboro, N.C., Carl (Cassandra) Smith of St. Louis, Mo. and Kenneth (Andrea) Smith of Warner Robins, Ga.; three uncles, Harold (Ruth) Jefferson, of Helena-West Helena, Jackie (Christine) Jefferson of Conyers, Ga., Bishop Everett (Elaine) Jefferson, Sr. of Laurel, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and spiritual brothers and sisters. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, August 31 with funeral services to follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church-Antioch, 2261 Murfreesboro Rd. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
