  • It’s that time of year again and the Cleburne County Fair is scheduled to entertain crowds with an array of food, fun, and farm animals.

Musical entertainment has become a favorite attraction at the fair and this year promises to be no exception.  Country artist Ryan Couron will be performing on Saturday, September 7 beginning at 7pm.  Couron, 26, is a California native that lives in Benton and has garnered a solid Arkansas fan base with his traditional country/southern rock sound.  According to his biography, Couron “discovered his vocal talent in a peculiar month long experience at age 16, while attending a Catholic seminary for Gregorian chant classes in Pennsylvania.”  Local favorite Imagine That will also be performing.  With a song list pulled from country and rock favorites, Imagine That never fails to entertain and motivate a crowd.

Tuesday and Wednesday of next week will be devoted to the check-in of exhibits and other entries into the various judging categories.

On Thursday, the festivities begin to pick up as Senior Citizens Day kicks into gear.  Taste buds will water at the annual Senior Pie Contest at 10am with samples available after the judging.  Bingo, the Pioneer Contest, and entertainment will also help round out Senior Citizens Day.  Along with these events, the Goat Show, Sheep Show, and Swine Show will take place that afternoon.

The focus shits from seniors to kids on Friday as area schools bus in students for “School Bus and Youth Day.”  The Dairy Cattle Show and Beef Cattle Show are also slated for that afternoon. Special events for Friday include the Handsome Rooster Contest and Beautiful Bunny Contest.  The Mr. Cleburne County Beauty Contest will begin at 7pm.

Saturday will be the main day of activities for the fair.  The Junior Livestock Auction begins at 10am, but be sure to check out the Goat Milking Contest at 9am.  Goats stay in the spotlight later at 2pm with the Goat & Owner Costume Contest, followed by the Goat Scramble, Hula Hoop, and Horse Race.  Chicken Bingo will begin at 5pm.

The Senior Citizens Pavilion will be the center of some afternoon entertainment with the Main Street Dance and Glitz Cheer Team at 3pm followed by Clogging Thunder performing at 4pm.

The Youth Talent Show and Fair Beauty Pageants will begin at 5pm in the commercial building.

Young or old, city or rural, there will be a little something for everyone at the Cleburne County Fair.  For more detailed information concerning this year’s fair, check out the 2013 Cleburne County Fair tab from The Sun-Times.
