  • This is a week of very special activities.  The Cleburne County Fair is this week, and also Heber Springs is having a Health Expo.  It is free, and will be held Thursday Sept 5th at our beautiful Community Center.

Show support for our very first Health Expo, so it will become the first of many.

The Health Expo is an integrated array of both the most technological advances in medical care along with common sense and non-invasive equipment and nutrition for health management as well as prevention of disease.  I would say it is the perfect integrated combination.

Be sure to take advantage of both the free screenings and all the information to put you in control of your own health.

The event will kick off with Dr. David Lipschitz, who has been known for many years for his work in geriatrics.  He will begin the expo at 11am with a lecture.  After his lecture all the booths will be open for everyone to browse and enjoy.  It will continue until 5pm.  Don’t miss it.

Dr. Stalling's has a booth and will be giving free prostate screenings. Dr. Lister, from Surgical Clinic of Central Arkansas, Heber Eye Care Center, Baptist, White County Medical Center, ARCare, Lakeshore Dental, McNair Eye Center, Matthews Chiropractic Neurology and Northstar will be there that day to speak to the public about health and wellness.

For those with diabetes, Fred Frego has a diabetic shoe company and will be doing fittings that day.

Absolute Care Management, Amedisys Home Health, Seven Springs Health and Rehab, Southridge Village Retirement Center and AR Department of Health all have booths. Taylor Hearing Centers, Attention Medical Supply will be here as well as Bertrand's Financial Services and Insurance and Cindi Wolf with United Health Care

On the non-invasive and nutritional front: Virginia Money, Janet Dawson and myself have booths that will show case a more natural health care approach.  Come by to see just what each has to offer.

Dedicated and caring citizens, like Rebecca Loftis, her family and friends here in Heber Springs promoted and were able to get a Community Garden started.  Rebecca says that Janice Norris was working along side with them.   Heber Springs has been very helpful by supplying the ground, the water and even some compost.  Many thanks to our mayor and Heber Springs for your support!

Page 2 of 2 - Please check with them to see how you also will be able to have a part.  You may also contact the County Extension office to secure your spot in the Community Garden for next spring.  I believe the number is (501) 362-2524.

By the way, they are having a fantastic time, growing beautiful produce.  Maybe they will have some of their home grown produce there on Thursday.

As you can tell there will be many different kinds of health care providers together in one place for you to talk and visit with.

This Health Expo will also include vendors that will deal more with personal and home safety. Hardwick Construction has a booth that will show how to improve your home for better health and safety. The police department, fire department and Lakeview Alarms have tables and will be able to speak with the public on personal safety.

The Heber Springs Community Center will have a table to tell about the amenities and classes provided there. In conjunction with our Health Expo they will be offering a free pass for the coming weekend so that people will be able to try the center at no cost. Our Community Center wants to provide this Health information just for us.

I want to talk to as many of you as possible.  Come by for a free demonstration of the Bio Mat and register for one of our door prizes which have been donated by businesses in town that couldn’t be with us..  Then please share how this column can better serve you.

Additionally, I want to get in contact with whoever in our area are involved in a Self-Reliant or Sustainable Living project. I would love to do some follow-up columns from last Wednesday’s article on Sustainable Living.  I really appreciated getting the feedback from some of you. That column seemed to hit a nerve for many.

    Attend this integrated Health Expo.

Be sure to gather as much information on how to be proactive in your own health as well as for those you love.  You’ll never regret you did.
