  • The 12th annual "Off the Beaten Path" Studio Tour is coming up on Sept. 13th, 14th & 15th. This free self-guided driving tour of artists' studios includes the diverse and exciting work of more than 30 local artists in the setting where their art is created.
These artists will open their private working studios to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday andSaturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The tour provides a unique opportunity to meet the artists in their own environment and see where and how they work, as well as their creations.
Each year since the first tour in 2002, new artists have been added through a peer review process that considers the type and quality of work produced and the geographic location and accessibility of the artist's studio. Eligible studios must be located within 30 miles of the courthouse square in Mountain View and must be the private working studio of the artist(s).
Four new studios were added to the tour this year: potters Judi Munn & John Perry, knifemaker Jim Crowell, fused glass jeweler Jim Cushing, and Gerry & Sheri Chisholm (carving and painting). In addition, handmade paper artist Debbie Jolly joins her husband DeWayne Jolly in his studio.
Other artists on the tour this year include silversmith Joellen Rosenquist, metal worker Ray Warren, Pam and Ed Alexander (garden art and photography), Joe Bruhin (wood fired pottery), David and Becki Dahlstedt (stoneware pottery), Linda Caperton (candles), Doris Fountain, (primitive folk art), DeWayne Jolly, woodworking, Leon Jennings (white oak baskets), Owen Rein (traditional American woodworking), Jeanette Larson and Shawn Hoefer (fiber arts, brooms, and wooden tools), Leon Creasey and Dwight Havens (woodturning),Sherman Anderson (wooden tops), Bernie Babak (leather, knives and antlers), Paul Gillam Jr, and Paul Gillam Sr, Blue Mountain Woodwork, weaver Cynthia Cox, mixed media artist Lee Cowan, and painters Carolyn Cushing, Loretta Babak, Sue Coon, Beverly and Russ Wilhite, Jim Tindall, Ann Snyder and Joy Harp.
The 2013 Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour "Guide to Artists' Studios" contains all the information about the artists and their studios that visitors need to "do the tour," including a detailed map of the studio locations. There is no registration required this year. Copies of the guide are available now at area Chambers of Commerce and businesses throughout the tour area and on the tour website and facebook page.
