  • The Cleburne County Fair was a rousing success this year.  Crowds came from all over the county to take part in the many events the fair had to offer this year.

Thursday was Senior Day and the new king and queen were crowned.  This years honors went to Lucille Davis and David Hoover.  Those who went to visit were treated with the annual pie contest.  The winners this year were a southern chess pecan pie by Betty Ray (1st place), an old-fashioned squash pie by Thelma Smith (2nd), and a cherry pie by Joey Dobbins (3rd).  Judges for the pie contest were Sheriff Marty Moss, Judge Claude Dill, Bob Connell of KFFB, and Sun-Times Publisher David Lee.  After the pie contest, seniors were treated to classic music from the 50s and 60s.

Friday was school bus day and a multitude of kids descended on the fair that morning and mid-afternoon.  The kids enjoyed visiting the various fair animals and the various arts, crafts, and horticulture available this year.  A lunch was provided in the pavilion.

Friday evening saw the chicken auction and the traditional Mr. Cleburne County pageant.  Contestants in the pageant entertained spectators with talents from singing to juggling.  The winner of this year’s pageant by popular acclaim was Christian “Christina” Adams who claimed the title with his outfit and juggling talents.  Photos from this show will be in the Friday, September 13, edition of The Sun-Times.

Saturday was a big day at the fair.  Starting with a goat milking that morning and continuing with a goat costume contest that afternoon and chicken bingo.  Livestock awards were also presented that afternoon.  Award winners with photos will be in the Friday edition of The Sun-Times.

The youth talent show and pageant were also held on Friday.

That evening, fair attendees were treated to the musical stylings of Take That and county artist Ryan Couron.

For select photos of the fair, see page 9A and 10A in Wednesday’s edition of The Sun-Times and also in the Friday edition of The Sun-Times.  Photos galleries of fair events will be available on our website at www.thesuntimes.com by Friday afternoon.
