Mildred Rachel (Rooney) Tyler, 88, of Quitman, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013. She was born on Sunday, April 19, 1925 in Enola, to the late John Franklin and Parlie Ann (Fulton) Rooney.
She graduated from Centerville High School in Greenbrier on April 6, 1946, where she was a star player on her basketball team. On July 15, 1950 she married the love of her life Hinkle Tyler. Her door was always open to anyone who needed food or shelter.
Those left to mourn her passing are her children, Barbara Jackson of Quitman, Vicki Jones of Gassville and Tim Tyler of Guy; her sister, Dorothy Haney of Quitman and brother, Alonzo Rooney of Guy; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of forty six years, Hinkle Tyler; four brothers, Jim, Frank, Albert and Phillip Rooney; three sisters, Donnie May, Ada Rooney, and Delmer Stacks; grandson, Neal Jackson, Jr.; two great-grandsons, Trey Geerts and J.J. Poff; great-granddaughter, Bethany Hitchcook.
A graveside service was held Thursday, September 12, 2013, at Rosebud Cemetery in Rosebud. Visitation was Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier.
