Augusta's Red Devils ran for 381 yards while defeating Quitman 48-16 on Friday night in the season opener for both clubs at Bulldog Stadium.
The Red Devils (1-0) compiled 450 yards of total offense and held the Bulldogs to 243.
Quitman found most of its success through the air as junior quarterback Walker Johnson connected with seven different receivers for a total of 199 yards and 2 touchdown with 2 interceptions.
"We could not run the ball very well against them so they were leaving the pass wide open and we made some yards passing but we dropped two touchdown passes that would have really helped us," said Quitman Coach Fritz Heidenreich. "When it came down to it we could not stop their running game."
Junior receiver Royce Katzer paced Quitman with 6 receptions for 109 yards, while sophomore receiver Treavor Williams added 4 catches for 25 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown grab.
Senior H-back Hadley Martin scored the Bulldogs' other touchdown when Johnson scrambled around and found him out of the backfield from 25 yards out.
Lake Davis (1-22), Nathaniel Reynolds (1-14), Michael McRae (1-11) and running back
Jacoby Brown (1-5) also contributed receptions for Quitman.
Sophomore running back Chris Milam led the Bulldogs' ground attack with 13 carries for 27 yards.
Martin carried the Bulldogs' defense with 10 tackles and Brown added 9 stops while Milam and Ty Davis each recorded 8 tackles.
Quitman (0-1) travels to Magazine on Friday night. The Rattlers (0-1) lost to 3A Greenland 27-18 in their season opener.
